I'm Taking a Mental Health Break, Y'all!

I’m tired.

I’m just tired. I am so, so very tired.

I’m tired of struggling. I’m tired of being broke, depressed, anxious and overwhelmed. I’m tired of always feeling lost and behind.

If you are a regular follower of this blog and this website, you might think, correctly, that I am ALWAYS struggling. That’s been a persistent theme of this blog for six years now, as well as many of my books.

I try to be as honest as possible here without lapsing into self-pity and right now things are particularly difficult.

I was in a bad place emotionally, professionally and economically before I paid over five thousand dollars to have my teeth violently removed and replaced with crazy giant android robo-choppers.

I’m not gonna lie: that did a fucking number on me. Knocked me right on my ass. It made a bad and difficult situation much worse. The recovery and the adjustment have both been tougher than I anticipated. My brain and my body stubbornly refuse to accept my new teeth or the absence of my old ones

I’m going through some things, is what I’m saying. Because the last few weeks have been dominated by dental trauma, paralyzing depression and my kids have been off for Spring Break and Passover I’ve fallen behind on work here and at my Substack newsletter Nathan Rabin’s Bad Ideas and blown through my backlog.

So I have decided to do the humane thing and take the next week off for a mental health break. It’s about time I gave this whole “self-care” fad a try.

I may take longer than a week. The hole I’m in right now feels deep and daunting. It may take me more time for me to crawl out of it.

I need to take some time to re-charge and re-set because I am feeling exhausted now in every way.

I ask for your patience and your compassion in a trying time. If you’re a donor, please do not delete your pledge. If you’re a commenter and/or reader, please wait patiently for my return. Also, buy my book

It’ll be worth it, I swear. That’s the Nathan Rabin promise, and even in my diminished state, you can take that to the bank.
